CareScout's 2025 survey puts Indiana's nursing home median at $8,943 a month for a semi-private room and $10,326 for a private room. Semi-private figures are often Medicaid-weighted and lower than a private-pay quote you'd actually be offered.
The detail behind the number
Nursing homes are the one senior-care category with a federal CMS star rating, so cost is only half the comparison -- pull the Care Compare rating alongside the price. Medicare may cover a limited rehabilitation stay after a qualifying inpatient hospital admission, but it does not pay for long-term custodial nursing care at either price point above. If a long-term stay looks likely, ask early whether the facility accepts Medicaid for nursing-home-level care (a different Medicaid pathway from the PathWays Waiver) and what the private-pay-to-Medicaid transition actually looks like there.
